Why You Should Spend More for Our Skincare Products

Yes, Skinceuticals is more expensive than over-the-counter skin care products.  Here's why they are worth it.

Drugs v. Cosmetics

Many people are surprised to hear that most over the counter skincare products are classified as cosmetics and are therefore not subject to the rigorous standards set forth by the FDA.

Medical grade products, on the other hand, are subject to strict standards and must demonstrate efficacy before they can be approved as a pharmaceutical product by the FDA.

By definition, over the counter products need to be safe for anyone who choses to use them.  Therefore, if they contain any active ingredient at all, they must be at a low enough concentration that they won't damage the skin.

That's great but it also means that the product is unlikely to provide much improvement.

Physician grade products have high enough concentrations of active ingredients to be effective.

Choosing the Right Product for Your Individual Skin

There's a lot of science that goes into choosing the particular skin care product that's right for any given individual.  To begin with, there are several categories of skin types based on how the skin reacts to sun exposure.  Not every product is appropriate for every skin type and some, in fact, can cause damage when used inappropriately.

On top of all that, each individual can have specific problems such as acne, overly dry skin and dark spots (to name just a few) that must be diagnosed and treated appropriately.

When purchasing skin care products over the counter, patients must self-diagnose and attempt to choose the right product.  Unfortunately, that product may not always be the best choice.

Ashley, our skin care expert, is trained in Aesthetics and by Skinceuticals.  She will not only diagnose your skin care needs but will perform in-office treatments using Physician-grade products.  She will then prescribe an individualized at-home regimen using Skinceuticals products that will help maintain the results obtained from the in-office treatments.

The Bottom Line

Over the counter products may be cheaper but would you rather end up buying product after product that disappoint or find the right high quality product recommended by professionals just for you that deliver the results you've been looking for?
