We've already had our first snow of the year so you know that the upcoming Winter months can take its toll on your skin. Never fear as our Medical Aesthetician Ashley is here! Read on for her best advice on how to help your skin survive the Winter cold.
1. Upgrade Your Moisturizer.
The cold winter air will dry out your skin. Fight the tendency for your skin to get dry and flaky by applying a quality moisturizer day and night. I recommend application of an anti aging cream that refills cellular lipids and nourishes dry skin right when you get out of the shower to trap in the hydration you just added to your skin.
Added bonus - a good moisturizer can smooth out wrinkles and make you look younger!
Ashley's pick - Skinceuticals Triple Lipid Restore
2. Lighten Up Your Cleanser.
Harsh cleansers can strip your skin of the essential oils that keep moisture locked in. A good rule of thumb is to stick to cream-based or soap free cleansers. Choose a cleanser that attracts moisture to the skin and helps lock in hydration.
Another tip is to avoid washing your face with very hot water which can similarly rob your skin of these oils. Stick to lukewarm water when its cold outside.
Ashley's pick - Skinceuticals Replenishing Cleanser
3. Don't Forget the Sunscreen!
Even though it may be cold outside, sunscreen protection is still necessary to both keep your skin looking healthy and minimize your risk of developing skin cancer.
Remember that the sun's rays can still get through even on cloudy days!
Our favorite sunscreen adapts to all skin tones to create a smooth complexion, without the white cast associated with most sunscreens.

4. Stay Hydrated!
When it's dry and cold out, the amount of water that evaporates out of our bodies increases. This can be even worse if you crank up the heat in the house.
Fight the tendency to lose moisture in your skin by drinking an extra glass of water or two and even investing in a cool mist humidifier!
Ashley's pick - Honeywell Cool Mist Humidifier
5. Don't Forget Your Lips!
The skin of your lips is much thinner than elsewhere on your body so it can dry, flake and crack easily. Even worse is that our lips don't have the ability to moisturize themselves like the skin located in other parts of the face.
Licking your lips may seem like a good idea, but it actually dries the lips out even faster.
Step up your lip care game by dropping the chapstick for this offering from Skinceuticals which not only keeps lips hydrated but has antioxidants to protect them from environmental damage.
