Laser Hair Removal

Removing unwanted hair on your own can be very time consuming and even painful.

If you are tired of shaving every day, or if you are frustrated with waxing, you may be a great candidate for laser hair removal. We use a rapid and gentle laser technique to destroy hair follicles in your problem areas.

While only one treatment can produce some long-term results, it is always recommended to return for multiple treatments to experience the best results.

How does laser hair removal work?

Our practice uses the Candela GentleLase system, which is a revolutionary long pulse high energy alexandrite laser.  This state of the art technology emits a gentle beam of light that passes through the skin to the hair follicle, where it is absorbed.  The laser energy is transformed to heat, which destroys the hair follicle while leaving the surrounding skin unaffected.

The skin is further protected during treatment by a Dynamic Cooling Device where cryogen is sprayed onto the skin to provide additional comfort.

What precautions should be taken before and after treatment?

  • You should avoid the sun for 4 weeks before and after treatment
  • Hair plucking, waxing and electrolysis should be avoided 6 weeks prior to treatment
  • If you have a history of perioral herpes infection, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed

How many treatments will I need?

Hair grows in cycles. Most patients will require at least 2 or 3 treatments because the laser only works on hairs that are early on in the growth cycle. Repeating the treatment allows additional follicles to be addressed as they re-enter the early growth phase. Furthermore, the number of treatments will vary with your hair and skin color as well as the coarseness of your hair.
