Botox – Dr. Jeffrey Horowitz

Botox is one of the world’s most well-known facial rejuvenation treatments. When injected at specific points around the face, Botox relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles. It is commonly used to treat wrinkles between the eyebrows, across the forehead and at the corners of the eyes (crow’s feet). Botox may also be used to smooth the vertical lines that appear around the upper lip called “smoker’s lines,” which can result in lipstick “bleeding.” Newer applications include the use of the product to the lower eyelids and the neck.

What Is Botox Treatment Like?

Botox treatment is quick and convenient; it usually takes between 10 to 15 minutes in Dr. Horowitz’s office. Botox is injected using a tiny 30-gauge needle. The injections are not painful — the sensation has been compared to a quick bee sting.

The full results of the injections usually appear within seven to ten days, and last three to six months. Dr. Horowitz recommends repeat treatments to maintain the results. Studies have shown that after several treatments, the results appear to last longer.

Safety Considerations

After your Botox treatment, you will need to refrain from bending over, lying flat or rubbing the treated area for four hours; this prevents the Botox from spreading to other muscles and causing complications.

Botox should not be used on women who are pregnant or nursing.

Other Facial Rejuvenation Options

Botox can be combined with other treatments for more transformative facial rejuvenation results. In what is sometimes referred to as a “liquid facelift,” Botox and dermal fillers (e.g., Juvederm, Radiesse) are used simultaneously to refresh the face. After reviewing your cosmetic goals with Dr. Horowitz during the consultation phase, he may recommend supplementing your Botox treatment with dermal fillers, laser skin resurfacing, chemical peel or surgery.
